Path of Exile Item Upgrading
The best way to upgrade your equipment in Path of Exile is through upgrading your items. This lets you improve it without having to rely on expensive drops or trades. This article will show you how to upp your items efficiently.
Upgrades to equipment give a bonus on the item's stats. The bonus increases with upgrade component level and rarity.
Components
Upgrade components make your armour and weapons stronger. You can get them from fighting off enemies, locating them in item spheres, or buying them from karma merchants. They can also be salvaged from equipment with them, or by utilizing an advanced salvage kit such as the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components are not destroyed when you remove them from the item.
Upgrade components are mostly used to improve an item but they can also be used for other reasons. They can be stacked in order to boost the level or the amount of experience gained by upgrading weapons or gear. They can be made for extra bonuses. A glyph that has been crafted can increase the upgrade chances of its target, and boost upgrades increase the attack or defense attributes of the weapon.
You can attach an upgrade template to an item by selecting it from the edition GUI. It will display an upgrade component list that the item can be upgraded to. You can also use the workbench to selecting an upgrade template. In either scenario, an item will be upgraded when enough upgrade components have been collected.
Each component has a different experience multiplier, which determines how much more experience an item will gain when it upgrades with that component. For instance, organic components give an experience multiplier that is higher than mechanical ones. It is recommended to upgrade your organic components first until you reach the next level in the weapon or equipment then switch to mechanical upgrades.
Each item comes with an upgrade maximum number that is available for. The number of items that are upgradeable is determined by their upgradeable rank and the kind of upgrade they can get. For instance, the highest possible upgrade for a weapon is a weapon with tier 10. However, the most commonly used weapon upgrades are an tier 6 weapon as well as a tier 5 armor upgrade.
Sets
A set is a group of items which share a bonus. Each item in the set can be upgraded at least once, and the upgrade increases the amount of bonuses that are guaranteed. The new upgraded item will still have the extra bonuses of the original one however, its stats will be different as well.
Players can change the identity of their equipment as well as changing it's roll by interfacing with a NPC upgrader. This will change the identity from a weapon to armor or vice versa, all the while keeping its basic stats and attributes that are required. The amount of damage and defense that the item receives when leveled up can be observed below the upgrade cost and decrease percentages in the upgrade template window. Aside from practice equipment, all other armor and weapons gain the same stats when they are leveled up. The value of these additional stats will be dictated by the market, with a perfectly rolled perfect version of a piece of armor or weapon able to command much more in trade value than unupp'd versions. The same is true for other armor pieces like circlets and tiaras.
